SCOTT Clarkson from Earby had his first haircut and shave of the year this weekend – and raised over £4,500 for Pendleside Hospice in the process!
Scott who works in the family business – West Craven Insurance Services – has been raising money since the New Year and has become increasingly hirsute in the process.
Scott’s hairy endeavours culminated at the weekend at a Fun day at White Lion pub in Earby, when he had his head and beard shaved. Scott raised money up to the end as he auctioned off the privilege of wielding the clippers – with the dubious honour going to Gavin Garbutt for £70.00.
Scott and his friends had raised over £500 earlier in the day by doing a men’s topless car wash and throughout his hair growing marathon, Scott has been doing a weekend “hangover run” where he picked up and delivered take away food for a donation.
A raffle and auction at the Fun Day raised £495 with another £62.35 raised by kid’s attractions including a Bouncy Castle and Mickey Mouse. Phil Storey who was present also raised£110 by having his chest and back waxed!
A delighted Scott said: “We raised over £1000 for Pendleside Hospice last month at the West Craven Insurance Services golf day, so to raise another £4,500 is overwhelming. It was a cracking weekend and I’m so grateful for everybody’s support.”
“I’ve had family, friends and friends’ families that have been affected by cancer, some have beaten it, some are dealing with it and some have unfortunately lost their battle. The money raised will help Pendleside Hospice to continue their magnificent work,” added Scott.
Christina Cope, Fundraising Manager at Pendleside Hospice, said: “We’re really grateful to Scott and the team at West Craven Insurance Services, as well as all Scott’s family and friends who really got into the spirit to support his fundraising. It’s thanks to the efforts of people like Scott that we continue to provide such a vital service to the area.”
